PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a diaryl amine compound and a salt thereof. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for producing the diaryl amine compound of formula (I) and the salt thereof. The method comprises a step of coupling a compound of formula (II) with an amine of formula (III) in the presence of an alkali metal salt or a transition metal catalyst. Wherein Ar<SB>1</SB>and Ar<SB>2</SB>are independently Q; each Q is an aryl or heteroaryl ring system optionally condensed with a saturated or unsaturated 5-8 membered ring having 0-4 heteroatoms; Q is optionally substituted with a specific group as defined; X is a leaving group; Y is -C(O)-O-Z; Z is selected from 1-6C aliphatic, benzyl, Fmoc, -SO<SB>2</SB>R' and Q, where Q is not substituted with X or alkyne; and R' is hydrogen, 1-6C aliphatic or a 5-6 membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring system optionally substituted with 1-3 substituents independently selected from halo, 1-6C alkoxy, cyano, nitro, amino, hydroxy and 1-6C aliphatic.
