<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink composition with excellent ink stability and ejection stability, capable of restraining blocking generation in a recording medium with an image formed. <P>SOLUTION: The aqueous ink composition includes composite particles and a colorant. The composite particles are obtained by polymerization of a monomer constituting a second polymer in the presence of a polymer aqueous dispersion obtained using a polymer solution including at least either a first polymer or a water-soluble solvent represented by formula (1): R-(A)n-OH, wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or a group derived from a sugar alcohol, A is at least one selected from the group consisting of an ethyleneoxy group and a propyleneoxy group, and n is an integer of from 1 to 20, and water. The first polymer includes a hydrophilic constituent unit and a hydrophobic constituent unit.
