PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple multi-channel optical equalizer which can compensate for multi-wavelength channels for multi-wavelength signals, and which hardly requires adjustable parameters and reduces intersymbol interferences.
SOLUTION: An equalizer includes controllable interferometer means which have a coupler that divides light into two part and has a controllable joint ratio, and two arms, one of which has an additional delay that equals an integral multiple of 1/Δf (Δf is a channel interval between adjacent wavelengths which is used in an optical system). A controllable interferometer unit also has a controllable delay which adjusts the relative phase of passing light set inside the first or second arm. A coupler combines signal parts from the first and second arms and generates an equalized output signal. In a second embodiment, the equalizer includes two equalizer units connected in series with each other that compensate both the leading and lagging intersymbol interferences.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
