PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair treatment agent having appropriate viscosity, excellent stability, being readily prepared, and giving smoothness to the hair with no stickiness or stiffness after treatment. SOLUTION: The hair treatment agent includes, as an emulsifying thickener, a composition including (A) 35-40 mass% of a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing 2-acrylamide-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid or a salt thereof, N, N-dimethyl acrylamide and acrylic acid or a salt thereof, (B) 23-28 mass% of isohexadecane, (C) 3-8 mass% of sorbitan polyoxyethylene monostearate, and (D) 24-39 mass% of water (the total amount of the components (A) to (D) is 100 mass%).
