PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent shift of a transfer image while obtaining superior efficiency of transfer, thereby preventing meandering of a transfer belt. SOLUTION: The transfer device includes: an intermediate transfer belt 8 having an elastic layer 8b; a transfer material conveying belt 13 configured to convey transfer material 18; a secondary transfer roller 12 having an elastic member 12b and configured to transfer an image on the intermediate transfer belt 8 onto the transfer material 18 at a secondary transfer nip 11c formed by pressing of the intermediate transfer belt 8 and the transfer material conveying belt 13; and an intermediate transfer belt driving roller 9 pressed by the secondary transfer roller 12. The secondary transfer nip includes: a pressure-contact nip 11a formed by pressure-contact of the secondary transfer roller 12 and the intermediate transfer belt driving roller 9 through the intermediate transfer belt 8 and the transfer material conveying belt 13; and a contact nip 11b formed by contact of the transfer material conveying belt 13 and the intermediate transfer belt 8 which are not pressed by the secondary transfer roller 12.
