The proportion of water is in the range above 23% and less than 39% by weight and preferably is within the range 26-33%. A specific depolarizer mix comprises the following ingredients in percentages by weight: 20% of electrolytic manganese pyrolosite dioxide having a BET-surface area of 40 sq. m./g; 30% of artificial manganese having a BET-surface area of 90 sq. m./g.; 9À6% of carbon black having a BET surface area of 130 sq. m./g.; 1À2% of zinc oxide; 10À5% of zinc chloride dissolved in 28À7% of coater. The separator is a fibrous material provided with a swelling agent and is wrapped round a bobbin formed by the depolarizer mix. A specific separator comprises sulphite paper coated with an aqueous suspension of: 4 parts by weight of cross-linked starch; 1 part by weight of methylcellulose; 1 part by weight of zinc oxide. The outside of the zinc can is wrapped with selfadhesive synthetic resin foil. A cardboard sleeve surrounds the foil and the sleeve is surrounded by a steel jacket. The can may be formed by a zinc alloy having 0À04-0À8% by weight of lead and up to 0À08% by weight of cadmium. Ammonium chloride may be added to the zinc chloride electrolyte. |
