A hinged connection apparatus for securing a first wind turbine component, e.g a blade, to a second, e.g. a control surface such as an aileron, comprises a hinge housing in which a rotary actuator 26 is retained. The actuator may comprise a rotary pneumatic or DC motor, a rotary piezo-electric element or shape memory alloy or polymer and may form the hinge pin connecting the first components. The actuator/hinge pin may be axially retractable into the hinge housing of one component for installation of the second component whereafter it is axially extended to engage a coupling formation 29 in the other component and may be moved and locked by a retaining screw 28 in a slot. Alternatively extension may be by an actuator. The coupling may be a transverse pin or a splined or polygonal plug and socket. Insulation against lightening may be provided. |
