PURPOSE: A biometric registration/authentication apparatus and a method thereof for improving the security of a fingerprint identification system are provided to protect an original template after configuring a temporary template for the fingerprint by using a transformation function. CONSTITUTION: A feature extraction unit(104) extracts a registration fingerprint feature. A transformation function creation unit(106) generates a transformation function configuring a rotation matrix and transformation matrix. A template creation unit(108) configures a fuzzy bolt and generates a temporary template.
