A bushing (20) has a cylindrical wall with an inner bearing surface (21) configured and dimensioned to surround the journal surface of a roll neck (14) in a rolling mill (10). The bearing surface (21) has a primary recess (26) into which oil is admitted to serve as a lubricant between the journal and bearing surfaces. The primary recess (26) has a width (W1) measured between circumferentially spaced edges (30), and a length spaced from the ends (32) of the bearing surface (21) by land segments (34) of the bearing surface (21).
