PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by decreasing the time of turning on a backlight with the maximum brightness. CONSTITUTION: A definition correcting unit(202) corrects the resolution of image data. A data determining unit(204) outputs image data supplied from the definition correcting unit. A data clamping unit(205) sets the image data as the size of a reference value. A modulation unit(206) generates the corrected image data and a backlight control signal and supplies corrected image data to a timing controller. The modulation unit supplies the backlight control signal to the backlight unit.
