1480035 Extruding silver-cadmium oxide ENGELHARD MINERALS & CHEMICALS CORP 21 March 1975 [22 March 1974] 12035/75 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B3 and H1] A silver-cadmium oxide extrudate is made by forming grains or fragments of silver-cadmium oxide from silver-cadmium alloy and extruding the grains or fragments with or without precompacting them. In one embodiment, a silver-cadmium alloy containing up to 20% cadmium, e.g. 9% cadmium, and optionally up to 10% of other metals or oxides is formed into small particles, which are oxidized at 1200‹ or 1450-1550‹ F. to form particles of silvercadmium oxide. Alternatively, the silver-cadmium oxide particles are made by alternately oxidizing and drawing a silver-cadmium wire or strip to form a silver-cadmium oxide wire or strip, which is then formed into particles. The silver-cadmium oxide particles may be hot or cold compacted and sintered to form a billet before being hot or cold extruded to produce a wire or strip. The extruded strip can be clad with silver, gold, copper or nickel, and rolled with intermediate annealing. The extruded wire may also be clad and drawn. |
