PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device using the same including an optical diffusion coating layer in an optical diffusion unit are provided to increase the uniformity and diffusion efficiency of the light and reduce the thickness of the backlight unit. CONSTITUTION: A light guide plate(15) diffuses light which is income from outside to the front side. One or more lamps(12) supplies the light to the light guide plate. A reflective sheet(14) reflects the light to the light guide plate and is arranged in the rear side of the light guide plate or the lamp. One or more optical sheets(16) is composed so that the optical diffusion coating layer be included.
