<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas purifying device which catches fine particles having carbon as principal components in an exhaust gas and makes the caught fine particles into harmless low-molecular gas combined with oxygen by oxidation or oxidative decomposition so that objective gas to be purified can be purified, and a method for purifying the gas. <P>SOLUTION: The gas purifying device 10 includes a gas passage 20 into which the objective gas EG to be purified including particulate matters (hereafter referred to as PM) which are the fine particles having carbon as the principal components is introduced. The gas passage 20 includes a plasma generation portion 30 having a mechanism which generates plasma for electrifying the PM and an oxidative decomposition treatment portion 40 including a mechanism which performs oxidation reaction to the PM for decomposing the PM.
