PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bristle material for a brush in which no fouling stays even after cleaning a small interstice, and which is capable of achieving an excellent cleaning effect. SOLUTION: In the bristle material for a brush consists of a covered yarn in which a sheath yarn is wound around a core yarn, the core yarn and the sheath yarn comprise a core-sheath composite fiber in which fusion components are exposed to the fiber surface and are fused and fixed as each of their fusion components surface-contacts with each other, and the winding number of the sheath yarn is 200 to 2,000 times/m. Above all, it is preferable that the fusion components of the core yarn and the sheath yarn are the same, and it is more preferable that the value obtained by dividing the length of a major axis by the length of a minor axis of the fiber cross section of the material for a brush is 1.05 to 1.3.
