Disclosed is an organic electroluminescent element which contains a light-emitting layer produced by a wet-mode film formation method and has a long operation life. Specifically disclosed is an organic electroluminescent element, in which at least a light-emitting layer formed by a wet-mode film formation method is provided between a cathode and an anode. The organic electroluminescent element is characterized in that the light-emitting layer contains a charge-transporting material or charge-transporting materials, and at least one of the charge-transporting materials is an anthracene derivative having a molecular weight of 460 to 2000 and having a specific structure that fulfils formula (1): 0.01 = µe/µh = 6 (wherein µe represents the electron mobility of the charge-transporting material at an electric field strength of 0.16 MV/cm; and µh represents the hole mobility of the charge-transporting material at an electric field strength of 0.16 MV/cm).
