The present invention discloses an association relation updating method and a packet domain network element. The method includes: once the packet domain network element acquires that the association relation with a Mobile Switching Center (MSC)/Visitor Location Register (VLR) is required to be updated, it sends a location update request to the Mobile Switching Center /Visitor Location Register so that the Mobile Switching Center /Visitor Location Register performs association relation information update according to the location update request. The above mentioned technical solution enables updating the association relation in time, ensures that the MSC/VLR can always correctly perform Circuit Switched (CS) paging in various application scenes, reduces the wireless network resource waste and lightens the network signaling load.
