<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bearing surface of a head slider of a hard disk drive that can reduce a mid disk (MD) hump and the like. <P>SOLUTION: The head slider for supporting a head over a magnetic disk in the hard disk drive and a method for manufacturing the head slider are disclosed. The air bearing surface (ABS) of the head slider has a deep recess before a trailing pad and an island pad. The recess is formed between the island and trailing pads of the ABS. According to the operational principle, the recess suppresses the peak pressure of the ABS, thereby alleviating the mid disk (MD) hump without reducing other performance parameters. The suppression of the peak pressure also reduces lubrication pickup caused by the magnetic disk. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
