<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle seat sliding device reducing the difference in the tone of the operation sound in the forward displacement and the backward displacement of a seat of a vehicle by making the moving speed constant in the forward displacement and the backward displacement of the seat, and assuring operating characteristics having no difference in the forward displacement and the backward displacement. <P>SOLUTION: Since a sliding resistance applying means 8 is incorporated in a transmission mechanism 5 for transmitting the driving force of a motor 4, the rotation speed of the motor is reduced by increasing the sliding resistance applied to the transmission mechanism when an upper rail 3 slides in the downward direction of the slope, and the rotation speed of the motor is increased by reducing the sliding resistance applied to the transmission mechanism when the upper rail 3 slides in the upward direction of the slope. Therefore, the difference in the tone of the operation sound generated when the upper rail slides is reduced by setting the sliding speed of the upper rail when sliding in the upward direction of the slope and the sliding speed of the upper rail when sliding in the downward direction of the slope to be equal to each other.
