LABELLING MACHINE

There is described a labelling machine (1) for dispensing labels (2) derivable from a web ' (3) travelling along a feed path (FP) and applying them to articles (4) travelling along an article path (AP). The machine (1) comprises:- a web supply reel (5); - means (9) for unwinding the web (3) off the supply reel (5) and for feeding the web (3) towards an affixing station (6) of the labelling machine (1), at which the labels (2) are sequentially applied to the articles (4) sequentially arriving thereat; driving means (12) for controlling the advancement along the feed path (FP) of the web (3) from which labels (2) are derivable in accordance with the advancement along the article path (AP) of the articles (4) to which the labels (2) are to be applied; and ' web tension control means (19) selectively actuatable to exert on the supply reel (5) a torque directed against the unwinding sense of the web (3).
