The device has a sheet scanning device (7) arranged in a region of sheet transport in or adjacent to a last printing device (1) of a sheet processing machine or to a series of printing units of the machine. The scanning device is formed as measuring bars (7) that linearly scan printed sheets (B). The bars are aligned on a scanning region of an impression cylinder (2) that is arranged downstream to discharge of the sheets from a column (6) of the printing device. A handling device is attached to the bars, and positions the bars opposite to the cylinder with respect to the scanning region.
