PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery holder which has a simple structure and is easy to replace batteries, and to provide a portable electronic device using this holder. SOLUTION: The battery holder includes: a body having a first surface provided with a holding recess for receiving a battery 20 and a second surface opposed to the first surface; a hinge shaft 41 attached to the second surface of the body; and a carrier assembly having a carrier part 431 which is rotatably attached to the body via the hinge shaft to support the battery and an operation part 433 which is connected to the carrier part, wherein the carrier assembly works with the carrier part to move the battery out of the holding recess.
