PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid and a hard coat structure which has sufficient mechanical strength and durability, heat resistance and high temperature steam resistance required for hard coat of a base material to be coated, and which exhibits desirable hydrophobicity and contamination resistance, and secure sufficient adhesivity and non-peelability. SOLUTION: The coating liquid is for protecting a surface Mf of a base material M to be coated by coating the surface Mf, and is prepared by reacting, via a sol-gel process, a composition in which mixing ratios of silicon alkoxide, hydroxy ketone derivative and water are set to be [1]:[0.02-0.8]:[1-3] in the molar ratio. The silicon alkoxide may include one selected from methyltrimethoxysilane,γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, a mixed raw material ofγ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane and dimethyldimethoxysilane, a mixed raw material of methyltrimethoxysilane and dimethyldimethoxysilane.
