<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device that causes the toners to uniformly adhere to a developing roller at a suitable thickness, and causes the toners to smoothly circulate. <P>SOLUTION: The developing device 40 includes a case 54, the developing roller 58, and an auger 226. The case 54 includes: a space 212 for housing a toner cartridge 42; a developing chamber 220; a sidewall 222 for defining the developing chamber 220; a first sidewall opening 222a through which the toner to be sent from the space 212 to the developing chamber 220 passes; and a second sidewall opening 222b through which the toner returning from the developing chamber 220 to the space 212 passes. The auger 226 transports the toner from the first sidewall opening 222a toward the second sidewall opening 222b. The first sidewall opening 222a and the second sidewall opening 222b are offset along a horizontal direction, namely in the direction perpendicular to a plane of Fig. 3.
