The machine tool has assembly units for producing multi-axial relative movement between a workpiece and a tool. A three dimensional scanner (11) is mounted on a main spindle (8) of the machine tool. A reference element (16) is permanently attached to the machine tool and is scannable by the scanner. The reference element is arranged at an outer side of a clamping surface of a machine table (7) and is formed in ball-shape. A cleaning nozzle is attached to the reference element that is formed with a flat scanning surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for geometry measurement of a program controlled machine tool.
