PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of calculating variation in detection temperature with high accuracy, irrespective of temperature region. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a heating member which is heated by a heat source to thermally fix a developer image on a recording sheet; a detecting member for detecting the temperature of the heating member, and whose detection sensitivity is enhanced when the temperature becomes equal to or higher than a predetermined temperature T1; and a control unit configured to control the detection means to obtain the detection temperature detected by the detection means at a predetermined sampling time and perform a predetermined control in accordance with the variation of the obtained detection temperature. The control unit is configured to, when the temperature in obtaining the detection temperature is below the predetermined temperature T1, obtain the detection temperature at a sampling time I2 longer than the sampling time I1 used when the temperature is equal to or higher than the predetermined temperature T1.
