The brake has an adjusting unit adjusting an air clearance of brake shoes (1, 2), and an air brake shoe controlling element co-operating with an adjustable gear wheel (18). A gear wheel actuating unit rotates the wheel when a brake shoe-air clearance exceeds predetermined measurement. A blocking element is provided between a bearing section and a bearing cover that is moved between free-running and blocking positions. The wheel is rotated in the bearing cover in the free-running position, and the blocking element is blocked in the blocking position during the rotation of the wheel.
