PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus in which penetration of uselessly ejected ink into an ink absorbing material can be facilitated even in case of ink exhibiting poor permeability into the ink absorbing material (e.g. pigment based ink). SOLUTION: A recess 25d is provided in a paper support member 25 disposed to face a recording head 23, and the ink absorbing material 26 is placed therein. A plate material 35 is provided in the recess 25d to be spaced apart slightly from the bottom of the recess 25d. A vibration source 33 is connected to one end of the plate material 35 in the longitudinal direction thereof, and a vibration is applied to the ink absorbing material 26 through the plate material 35. Consequently, even high viscosity ink such as pigment based ink ejected from an ink jet recording head 23 can penetrate into the interior of the ink absorbing material 26 before solidifying on the upper surface of the ink absorbing material 26.
