PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption of the receiving circuit of a remote control signal. SOLUTION: A receiving circuit 20 includes: a timing signal generation circuit 2 for generating a timing signal; a power supply circuit for performing power supply to the light receiving element of a remote control signal when the timing signal is a first level, stopping the power supply to the light receiving element of the remote control signal when the timing signal is a second level, and allowing the light receiving element to intermittently operate; a sampling signal generation circuit 3 for generating a sampling signal during a period when the light receiving element operates in response to the timing signal; a sampling circuit 4 for sampling an output signal from a light receiving element 21 in response to the sampling signal; and a detection circuit 5 for detecting an output signal from the light receiving element 21 sampled by the sampling circuit 4.
