PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical pickup with which working efficiency is improved by alleviating erroneous installation of components. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the optical pickup with which an optical pickup for a first product and that for a second product are manufactured with a single manufacturing line, the optical pickup for the first product includes a base and a first cover component with a coating having a coloring agent or a fluorescent agent applied thereto, and the optical pickup for the second product includes the base and a second cover component which has a shape identical to that of the first cover component and is not coated. In manufacturing the optical pickup, the method includes a cover installing step of installing the cover component on the base. In the cover installing step, when manufacturing the optical pickup for the first product, the first cover component is installed on the base, and on the other hand, when manufacturing the optical pickup for the second product, the second cover component is installed on the base.
