PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a basic platinum acetate completely free from sulfur, halogen and nitrogen, and not causing any environment contamination or adverse effects on electron characteristics, a process for producing the basic platinum acetate quantitatively in a high yield, to provide a metal acetylide compound prepared by using basic platinum acetate and a production process therefor, and to provide a conductive paste which is an applied product thereof. SOLUTION: Platinic acid of 8.00 g subjected to an activation treatment is mixed with 150 mL glacial acetic acid and the mixture is stirred while heating at a bath temperature of 100°C. Then, a solid suspended therein is gradually dissolved, and after a lapse of 10 h or longer, the solid is disappeared to obtain a substantially homogeneous brown solution. After the solution is cooled to room temperature, a trace amount of insoluble matters is separated through filtration, and acetic acid is distilled off under a reduced pressure from the filtrate to obtain 9.52 g brown solid (basic platinum acetate). The basic platinum acetate is dissolved in an alcohol, 4 times by mol of acetylene is added, and the resulting solution is allowed to react at 70°C for 3 h, whereby platinum acetylide can be synthesized quantitatively.
