PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preventing non-specific adsorption of an organic matter to the surface of a material for constituting tools for use in experiments using a protein-containing biological sample. SOLUTION: There is provided a surface treatment method of producing a surface having a low binding property, which includes the steps of: subjecting the surface of a solid phase to an oxidation treatment to introduce an oxygen-containing functional group; and chemically activating the treated surface to render the surface reactive, and subsequently treating the surface with a polyalkylene glycol derivative or a polypeptide which can react with the surface.
