Disclosed is a dynamo-electric machine for use in vehicles. In said dynamo-electric machine, n types of magnet pieces are provided with: a stator (230) having a stator core (232) and a stator winding (238) wound around said stator core (232); and a rotor (250) that is provided so as to be able to rotate with respect to the stator (230) and has a rotor core (252), formed by laminating electromagnetic steel sheets with a plurality of magnet-insertion holes (272) formed therein, and a plurality of permanent magnets (254, 255) that are supported respectively in the plurality of magnet-insertion holes (272) and that form magnetic poles. The permanent magnets (254, 255) extend in the direction of the rotor axis and have at least two different lengths in the direction of the rotor circumference.
