<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of an electric vehicle enabling a quick shift response while suppressing a shift shock in the electric vehicle equipped with a stepped automatic transmission. <P>SOLUTION: The controller of the electric vehicle includes a motor/generator MG, the stepped automatic transmission AT and right and left rear wheels RL, RR in a driving system, and controls the number of revolutions of the motor/generator MG so that the transmission input number of revolutions reaches the target input number of revolutions during a shift of the stepped automatic transmission AT.
