METHOD AND DEVICE OF PRESENTING STEREOSCOPIC IMAGES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present reproduction images having a wide viewing angle without distortion even when using a spatial light modulation element having a coarse pixel pitch. SOLUTION: Hologram interference fringes formed on recording surfaces 20R and 20L by an object light from an original image 10 and reference light 40R and 40L are calculated by a computer to be included in image data 50R and 50L. A right-eye and a left-eye observation positions 30R and 30L are established in advance and light is used that takes a light path that converges to these observation positions as reference light 40R and 40L. A spatial light modulation element such as a liquid display is arranged at a position on the recording surfaces 20R and 20L, respectively, and image data 50R and 50L are provided and driven to make hologram interference fringes to be displayed. On the presentation face of the interference fringes regeneration irradiation light is radiated that takes the same optical path with the reference light 40R and 40L and make an observer observe the same with both eyes ER and EL being placed at observation points 30R and 30L.
