<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and reliably analyze a failure in an FA system compatible with the EtherCAT (R). <P>SOLUTION: A controller 10 has a protocol monitor function that operates by a monitor system program, and always monitors data transmitted to/from a remote device 23. The controller has a failure diagnosis function of detecting a failure, and thus holds the data monitored immediately before when the failure is detected. The protocol monitor function is embedded. There is no need to add a new protocol monitor to the network as an external device after occurrence of the failure.
