WAVEGUIDE OPTICAL GATE SWITCH AND MULTISTAGE WAVEGUIDE OPTICAL GATE SWITCH

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra-miniature waveguide optical gate switch that is not affected by an error on manufacture, concerning the waveguide optical gate switch and multistage waveguide optical gate switch.

SOLUTION: The waveguide optical gate switch changes an amount of transmission of light by changing a complex index of refraction for part of an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide includes: a pair of core layers facing each other in an optical axis direction; a phase change material part arranged between the pair of core layers; and a cladding layer covering the pair of core layers and the phase change material part. Also, the optical waveguide includes a phase change means for changing a phase of the phase change material part in the phase change material part.
