A device contemplated to be used in lieu of tape to secure and protect an IV catheter while maintaining the patient's comfort and an acceptable range of movement is formed with a thin, flexible body configured to be wrapped around a portion of a patient's anatomy, and particularly a patient's hand. The body of the device includes a slot extending into the body from one end, with an aperture at the base of the slot into which a patient's thumb is to be received, and the ends of the device are wrapped around to the palm of the hand and secured to each other without any of the securing adhesive to contact the skin of the patient. In preferred embodiments a releasable and re-connectable cover is provided over the catheter site to allow inspection and adjustment with minimal disturbance of the device or the patient.
