PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus obtaining high quality images by suppressing separation from an image carrier of a primary transfer roller due to tension of an intermediate transfer belt and preventing occurrence of primary transfer inferiority. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus includes: the endless intermediate transfer belt 8; a plurality of photoreceptor drums 2a-2d arranged along a running direction of the intermediate transfer belt 8; and a plurality of the primary transfer rollers 6a-6d contacted on a downstream side for the shaft centers in the photoreceptor drums 2a-2d through the intermediate transfer belt 8. The color image forming apparatus arranges a pressing member 37 for pressing the downstream side part of each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d of the intermediate transfer belt 8 on the side of each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d in the neighborhood of the downstream side of each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d respectively, and deforms the downstream side part of each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d of the intermediate transfer belt 8 to be nearer to each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d rather than a tangent drawn on contact points to the intermediate transfer belt 8 of each photoreceptor drum 2a-2d.
