The method involves inserting a rolling stock (G) i.e. metal band, into a set of rolling stands (2, 3). A loop lifter (5) is inserted into a rolling stock region (S) i.e. metal band region, using a positioning member after insertion of the rolling stock into the rolling stands. The rolling stock region is arranged between the rolling stands, and a position of the loop lifter relative to the rolling stock region is detected. The positioning member of the loop filter is controlled and/or regulated based on the relative position. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a rolling mill comprising rolling stands (2) a machine-readable programming code for a controlling and/or regulating device for a rolling mill to execute a method for controlling and/or regulating a loop filter (3) a storage medium for a machine-readable programming code.
