The invention relates to a seal which serves to seal a chimney or other object penetrating the roof skin, consisting of a plate-like part, fitting snugly against the roof skin, and a tube-like part fitting snugly around the chimney or other object to be sealed. The tube-like part forms a watertight sleeve which presses against the chimney outer wall. The plate-like part which fits against the roof skin can be fastened to the roof skin by adhesive bonding or another method. A characteristic of the invention is that the seal is formed by a blank which is prefabricated from rubber or some other elastically stretchable material and has an opening which is adapted for the purpose and is smaller than the cross-section of the object to be sealed. If the sealing blank is drawn from above over the chimney or the like, the opening stretches, for example, to three times its original cross-sectional area and in the process forms a collar which presses sealingly against the chimney or the like. By further drawing-down of the seal thus formed until it reaches the roof skin, sealing is effected in the above-described manner. If necessary, the opening can be formed so as to be stretchable/snug-fitting in a different way, and the collar can, if necessary, be extended in height by an additional part.
