A power control device for a welding machine comprises a semiconductor rectifier arrangement for converting an AC input signal into a DC output signal, one or more semiconductor switching elements which are connected in series between an output path from the semiconductor rectifier arrangement and an output connection, a reverse-current diode, one end of which is connected to the output path of the semiconductor switching element and the other end of which is connected to the junction between the other output path from the semiconductor rectifier arrangement and the other output connection. A drive switching element, which is connected to the semiconductor switching elements in order to drive them, a single cold plate (cooling plate) for supporting the semiconductor rectifier arrangement, the semiconductor switching elements, the reverse-current diode and the drive switching element via suitable insulating material.
