PURPOSE:To control a movement of an arc and to obtain a weld joint having a high quality by operating a magnetic field by an arc generated from a non-consumable electrode provided with a recessed part on its tip part. CONSTITUTION:When an alternating magnetic field is operated by an electromagnet 5a in the direction orthogonal to an electrode 1 having a recessed part on the tip part, an arc is driven magnetically in the directions as indicated with arrows A, B in accordance with a Fleming's left-hand rule. In the same way, when an electromagnet 5b is energized alternately, the arc is driven magnetically in the directions as indicated with arrows C, D. Also, when said magnet is energized in one direction instead of the alternating energizing, the arc can be inclined in only one direction. Accordingly, when the energizing direction and strength of the electromagnet 5b are varied by a control part 6 in a state that the direction of the electrode 1 is fixed to the vertical direction with respect to a base metal, the same effect as a torch is inclined to an angle of advance or an angle of sweepback is obtained. |
