Described is a portable electronic system for monitoring glucose and the method for measuring the same and transmitting data for the follow-up of diabetic patients, so as to determine the glucose levels in blood resulting from an electrochemical reaction which is produced over a reactive strip including the glucose oxidase enzyme or any other enzyme for generating current signals. Said signals are processed and stored in a SD Card memory, once the information of the measurement is stored, a communication is established with a remote device having a Bluetooth communication protocol so as to send the information of the measurement in a wireless manner. When the information is received by the remote device, a new connection is established with the remote centre of medical assistance by means of a GPRS where a record of the measurements of each patient is created. If any anomaly is detected in the glucose levels, an alarm is sent to the physician, the patient or the emergency services acc ording to the alarm degree. The system may offer a higher control and monitoring in patients suffering from diabetes.
