PURPOSE:To desalt efficiently sea water by reutilizing a large quantity of the waste heat from a diesel engine by feeding the sea water heated by using the waste heat from the diesel engine as original water to an electrodialyzer and desalting the water. CONSTITUTION:The warm sea water discharged from coolers 1, 3, 4, 5 is fed as original water to an electrodialysis tank 9, where the sea water is separated to desalted water (fresh water) and concn. water. If the temp. of the concd. water is too high, the water is mixed with the same of an ordinary temp. fed through a bypass pipe 11 connected between the outlet of a sea water pump 8 and a pipe 10 for releasing the concd. water to control the temp. of said water and thereafter the water is released. Cation exchange membranes and anion exchange membranes are arrayed alternately in the tank 9. When a DC voltage is passed to the electrodes at both ends while the warm sea water is kept fed, the chambers where ions are concd. by an ion exchange reaction and the chambers where the ions are desalted are generated alternately, and the sea water is desalted.
