DEVICE FOR COMMUNICATING WITH CRUM UNIT AND METHOD THEREOF

PURPOSE: An apparatus for performing communication with a CRUM(Customer Replaceable Unit Monitoring) unit is provided to prevent the use of fake contents by preventing the copy, and change of the data. CONSTITUTION: A controller(220) ciphers command and data using an encryption algorithm. The controller generates communication message by appending MAC(Media Access Control) to the encrypted command and data. An interface unit(250) transmits the communications message to the CRUM unit through the serial interface. The data comprises information about the consumption goods used in the image forming apparatus. The command varies the status information about the consumption goods active condition saved in the CRUM unit based on the information about the consumption goods.
