The method involves sequentially regulating pressure in an intake manifold (120) and pressure in an exhaust manifold (122) of an internal combustion engine (110). A state of regulation of pressure in the exhaust manifold is changed to a state of regulation of pressure in the intake manifold, when an absolute value of difference between a set point pressure in the intake manifold and the pressure determined in the intake manifold becomes less than a threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer readable data acquisition medium comprising a computer program with a set of instructions for implementing an intake system operating method (2) an intake system of an internal combustion engine, comprising hardware and/or software units for implementing an intake system operating method.
