The method involves selecting a circular control zone (2) on a sheet metal (1), and providing each stamping tool with a marking element whose punch includes a rod inscribed in a geometrical reference pattern. The sheet metal is displaced along the press line, and the marking element of each stamping tool is applied on the control zone. Geometrical patterns constituted by marks (3-6) and obtained by successive application of marking elements of tools are compared with the geometrical reference pattern.
