<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient method for extracting light from a semiconductor device by changing reflection and transmission characteristics of a semiconductor interface in a semiconductor light-emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: An LED having an ordered interface texture that is periodic in any interface of an LED will improve the extraction of first-pass light. Patterning the interfaces is controlled to direct more light into the ambient without requiring multiple reflection in the device in order to extract the light. In addition, ordered texture interface reduces Fresnel loss for light rays to escape into the outside.
