<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for anchoring suture to tissue, incorporating an anchoring device constructed substantially from the suture. <P>SOLUTION: The anchoring device is constructed as a longitudinally extended, preformed knot configuration. The configuration, after deployment, is reconfigured to form anchoring knots having an increased cross-section relative to the preformed knot configuration, and is securely lodged in the tissue.
