PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of reading an image with no disturbance when an automatic document feeder has a connection mechanism causing no inclination to the image reading apparatus. SOLUTION: The automatic document feeder 1 is connected to the body upper part of the image reading apparatus 7 via connecting members 11a and 11b such as hinges to be opened/closed freely toward the image reading apparatus 7. In this structure, projection parts 12a and 12b and hole parts 13a and 13b are arranged on the operation panel front side. When the projection parts 12a and 12b are inserted into the hole parts 13a and 13b, the automatic document feeder 1 is fixed in a normal position and vibration and inclination are restrained, so that disturbance of a read image can be prevented.
